HIGH-END RENOVATIONS
your home has good bones.
we make it extraordinary.
A high-end renovation is more than a cosmetic refresh— it’s an opportunity to reimagine how your home works, looks, and feels. BARC Builders brings the same design rigor and construction precision to renovations that we bring to ground-up builds.
Whether you’ve outgrown your current layout, inherited a home that doesn’t reflect your taste, or simply want to elevate a space you love, a thoughtfully executed renovation can be transformative. We specialize in whole-home renovations and high-impact room-level projects — kitchens, primary suites, bathrooms, and living spaces — that honor the existing architecture while bringing it fully into the present.
Every renovation begins with a thorough assessment of your home’s existing conditions — structure, systems, and finishes — so we can give you an honest picture of what’s involved before a dollar is spent. From there, we work collaboratively with your design team to develop a scope that balances your vision with your timeline and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we live in the home during a renovation?
It depends on the scope. For room-level renovations (a kitchen or bathroom), most clients remain in the home with manageable disruption. For whole-home renovations, we generally recommend relocating during a construction — we can help you think through the logistics and timing during our initial consultation.
How long does a whole-home renovation take?
A comprehensive whole-home renovation typically takes 6-12 months depending on scope and whether structural modifications are involved. Kitchen and bathroom remodels generally run 8-16 weeks. We provide a detailed project schedule before construction begins.
Do renovations require permits in the Bay Area?
Most renovations involving structural work, electrical, plumbing other HVAC changes require permits in California. We handle all permitting on your behalf and ensure every aspect of the work is inspected and code-compliant. Unpermitted work creates real problems at resale — we never cut corners here.
What if unexpected issues are found once walls are opened?
It happens — especially in older Bay Area homes. When we encounter unforeseen conditions (outdated wiring, water damage, structural issues), we document everything, present you with options and costs and get written approval before proceeding. You’ve never surprised by a bill you didn’t authorize.
Do you work with our existing architect or interior designer?
Absolutely — and we prefer it. We work seamlessly alongside your design team and treat collaboration as essential to a great outcome. If you don’t have a designer yet, we’re happy to refer you to trusted partners we’ve worked with successfully.
