Frequently Asked Questions

Permitting for ADUs in California has been significantly streamlined in recent years, typically taking 2-4 months. Construction of a detached ADU generally takes 4-8 months. Attached ADUs and garage conversions can be faster. We’ll give you a realistic timeline specific to your city during our initial consultation.

California state law has significantly expanded ADU rights for homeowners. Most single-family lots can accommodate at least one ADU and one Junior ADU (JADU). Rules vary slightly by city regarding setbacks, height limits, and owner-occupancy requirements. We’re well-versed in the regulations across every  municipality we serve and can advise you on exactly what’s possible for your property.
